Lapalux returns to FlyLo's Brainfeeder with Ruinism, a new full length that sees him exploring a new expansive sound of ethereal broken beat sound design in part influenced by French Dada artists and continuing his exploration of hypnagogia and furthering it to reach into the limbo space between life and death.

Much of Ruinism's origins lie in a theatrical score Lapalux wrote for a performance art piece titled 'Despair' which was presented in a cemetery in East London, the cloud of melancholy that hung in the air of the performance directly fed into the DNA of Ruinism, giving the album a progressive feeling that relays to the tracks - sort of clawing free from destruction as they unravel in on themselves. Lapalux describes the process of the album as “Ruinism is a made-up term I use to describe the way in which blended sound palettes and inspirations interact with one another to form this album,” Howard explains. “I would record synths and drum hits and re-sample, re-pitch, twist and blend the sound until it was ‘ruined’ and then salvage it again in an attempt to make something coherent.”.

Continuing the quest of journeying deep into the glimpsing moments explored between life and death that he set out to investigate on previous album Lustmore, Lapalux's latest journey takes in a brutalised landscape that perhaps could resemble a post-apocalyptic vision of the East London streets in which 'Despair' was born. While the atmosphere is ripe with heavy handed doom, Lapalux catches sublime moments of shimmering beauty that cut right through the harsh environments. Moments of clarity range from the anthemic chug of Rotted Arp, Louisahhh's vocals adding a layer of euphoric clarity to the mix, while the slow-motion grasp Falling Down featuring JFDR blends an angelic sense of hope and possibility that reaches out a hand to pull you through the darkness and into the other side.

Much like the endlessly morphing sound design of Arca's recent LP, Lapalux has transcended an album of sheer beauty that could have only been created in these strange, compelling times.
