Records Of The Week
Surgeon aka Anthony Child has been to the jungle of Maui again, returning with a new set of synthesizer excursions and quasi-field recordings for the anthropocene. Trunk Records releases the landmark soundtrack by Delia Derbyshire and Elsa Stansfield to 1972's film 'Circle Of Life': Concrete ideas, tape manipulation and environmental sounds in two longform compositions. 'Against Composition' could be the mantra of Mirt's 'Random Soundtrack', describing it as an extended field recording, a 'sonic Ècriture automatique'. This release is looking for the 'point where music and found sounds' - melt but while listening it does not sound too conceptual at all. Meanwhile NYC-based percussionist Eli Keszler comes up with a delicate sounding "synthesis between Scientist and Xenakis".
